Prenatal Visit
Congratulations!!!
What an exciting and somewhat confusing time. The staff at Georgetown Pediatrics
would like to make this journey as effortless as possible, and as a result we
offer two options for prenatal visits. The first option is a scheduled meeting
with our practice administrator. This meeting is done during our office hours
and includes a tour of the office, and an overview of our practice policies and
resources. The second option is attending our monthly ‘Expectantly expecting’
class. These informal classes are held in the evening on the second Tuesday of
every month at varying office locations. The classes provide an overview of the
practice, the opportunity to meet some of the physicians and staff, as well as
tour the office. We realize the prenatal visit is an important initial step in
introducing our practice, selecting a pediatrician and securing a comfortable
and trusting relationship. We hope these two options provide that opportunity
for you.
Your Newborn's First Office Visit
The excitement continues, fatigue is present, and at this time your newborn is
adjusting and transitioning to being at home. You first newborn visit occurs 2-3
days after leaving the hospital. During this visit we will address feeding,
safety, routine newborn care, family support and sibling relationships. Your
baby may have received the first Hepatitis B vaccine in the hospital, if not we
will administer it at this visit. Your next visit will be at 1 month of age.
Well Child Visits or Check Ups
Our check up schedule follows the
guidelines set forth by the American Academy of Pediatrics. That schedule is as
follows: newborn, 1 month, 2 month, 4 month, 6 month, 9 month, 12 month, 15
month, 18 month, 24 month, 30 month, 3 years, and annually until the age of 21
years. During these visits your child’s height and weight are assessed,
nutrition is discussed, developmental surveillance is performed, hearing,
vision, urinalysis and hemoglobin are also evaluated. Please call to schedule
your child’s check up a few weeks in advance to insure the provider of your
choice. Please call as soon as you are aware of the need for a camp, sport or
school physical, as these appointments go very quickly during the summer. Should
you need to cancel a check up appointment, we ask that you call 24 hours in
advance so that someone else can use that time.
Sick or Urgent Visits
At Georgetown Pediatrics we schedule sick visit appointments the day of your
call. We know that caring for a sick child can create anxiety; therefore we make
every effort to see our sick patients as soon as possible. Please remember our
nurses are happy to answer any questions and provide guidance during office
hours.
